About Me

Bonjour y'all,

My name is Abby Gwinn and from May 2015 to August 2017, I will be serving as a Science Teacher with the Peace Corps in Cameroon, Central Africa. This is my story (*dun dun* - you're supposed to imagine the Law and Order "boink boink" noise at this point).

My Roots...
I was born and raised in good ol' South Carolina. Hailing from the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and growing up with all that nature around, it's no surprise that I came out with a bit of a wild streak. From backpacking treks with my backpacking Barbie (pink hiking boots and all) and Happy Hiker awards (thanks, Mom!) to canoe trips with the our homemade tarp sail, I had some pretty wild experiences. Lucky me, I had parents who instilled in me a love of nature from a very early age. Combine that with the Magic School Bus and you've got a budding scientist on your hands. Fast-forward a bit: In May of 2013, I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology from Wofford College, a small liberal arts college in Spartanburg, SC. I took some time to evaluate what my "next step" would be. That next big step is service in the Peace Corps and I can't wait to take it.

My Blog...
Part of the Peace Corps Mission is to help promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans. Hopefully, through anecdotes, musings, and pictures, I can give you a little taste of life in Cameroon. And maybe this taste inspires you to seek out a similar experience or just gives you some food for thought. Either way, welcome to my journey.
